Minutes of a Regular Meeting of the Board of Directors

June 23, 2015

A regular meeting of the Python Software Foundation ("PSF") Board of Directors was held over Group Conference Call via phone and Internet Relay Chat beginning at 19:00 UTC, on June 23, 2015. Lynn Root presided over the meeting. Ewa Jodlowska took notes/minutes.

All votes are reported in the form "Y-N-A" (in favor-Y‚opposed-N‚abstentions-A; e.g. "5-1-2" means "5 in favor, 1 opposed, and 2 abstentions").

1   Attendance

The following members of the Board of Directors (6 of 11) were present at the meeting: Lynn Root, Marc-Andre Lemburg, Diana Clarke, Naomi Ceder, Ashwini Oruganti, and Anna Ossowski. Ewa Jodlowska (Secretary/Administrator) was also in attendance. Van Lindberg and Nick Coghlan voted by proxy.

2   Minutes of Past Meetings

The 8 June 2015 Board meeting minutes were voted on and approved.

RESOLVED, that the PSF approve the minutes at https://mail.python.org/mailman/private/psf-board/2015-June/030974.html as representing a true and accurate record of the June 8, 2015 meeting.

3   Votes Taken Between Meetings

There were no votes taken between the June 08, 2015 and June 23, 2015 meetings.

5   Reports

The board has put into action a new policy that will require all PSF active working groups send in monthly reports at the end of each month. First set will be due at the end of June 2015.

6   Python Cuba Workgroup

RESOLVED, that the Python Software Foundation recognize the Python Cuba Workgroup as an official PSF workgroup https://wiki.python.org/psf/PythonCubaWG/Charter

7   DjangoCon 2015 Sponsorship

RESOLVED, that the Python Software Foundation sponsor DjangoCon US 2015 in the amount of 3,000 USD

Approved, 8-0-0.

8   EuroPython 2015 Sponsorship

RESOLVED, that the Python Software Foundation sponsor EuroPython 2015 in the amount of 6,000 EUR (about 6,760 USD)

Approved, 7-0-1.

9   Django Girls Wroclaw Workshop

RESOLVED, that the Python Software Foundation sponsor the July 2015 Django Girls Wrocław workshop in the amount of 600 EUR (about 675 USD)

10   Q2 2015 CSA

RESOLVED, that the Python Software Foundation award the 2015 2nd Quarter Community Service Award to Nicholas Tollervey

11   “Trial” Porting to Python 3

RESOLVED, that the Python Software Foundation grant $1,600 USD to Amber Brown for the completion of porting Trial (Twisted's test runner and tooling) to Python 3

12   Django Girls @ PyCon UK 2015

RESOLVED, that the Python Software Foundation grant USD 1,500 to PyCon UK to support a Django Girls workshop for 30 students at PyCon UK 2015

13   PyCon UK 2015 Teacher Travel Grant

RESOLVED, that the Python Software Foundation grant USD 2,000 to PyCon UK to help cover the costs for 40 teachers to attend PyCon UK 2015

16   Django Girls Austin Workshop

17   Cameroon Intro to Python Workshop

RESOLVED, that the Python Software Foundation grant 2533.75 USD to the month long Cameroon Introduction to Python workshop

18   Hyperion Development Python Workshops

RESOLVED, that the Python Software Foundation grant $4800 USD to Hyperion Development to help fund their Python workshops for prisoners, and online Python courses for university students in South Africa

19   PyCon AUS Python in Education Miniconf

RESOLVED, that the Python Software Foundation grant up to $2000 AUD to PyCon Australia to help cover the costs of offering financial assistance to qualified teachers attending the inaugural PyCon Australia Python in Education miniconf

Approved, 7-0-1.

20   Travel Grant to JVM Language Summit

RESOLVED, that the Python Software Foundation grant $2,100 USD to Stefan Richthofer for speaker travel costs to the JVM Language Summit 2015, happening in Santa Clara, CA

Approved, 6-0-2.

21   Other Business

  • Naomi Ceder gave an update on the progress of the Grant Working Group creation. The next move is to solicit for volunteers to join. Also discussed was how we will determine the funneling of grants to the appropriate working groups, such as how do we determine if a grant is to go to the Grant Working Group or to the O&E Working Group.
  • Diana Clarke will start a new thread on psf-board@ regarding the psf-members@ mailing list and discussion on how we should proceed. Diana also proposed a new policy for Working Group Reporting. Each active WG has to report monthly at the end of the month.
  • Lynn Root will email update on DSF+PSF WG to the board mailing list.
