Minutes of a Regular Meeting of the Board of Directors

March 17, 2023

A regular meeting of the Python Software Foundation ("PSF") Board of Directors was held over Group Conference Call via phone and Internet Relay Chat/Slack beginning at 19:00 UTC, on March 17, 2023. Olivia Sauls took notes/minutes.

All votes are reported in the form "Y-N-A" (in favor-Y‚opposed-N‚abstentions-A; e.g. "5-1-2" means "5 in favor, 1 opposed, and 2 abstentions").

1   Attendance

The following members of the Board of Directors (11 of 12) were present at the meeting: Thomas Wouters, Nina Zakharenko, Kushal Das, Jeff Triplett, Dustin Ingram, Deb Nicholson, Jannis Leidel, Simon Willison, Débora Azevedo, Dawn Wages, Tania Allard.

Joe Carey (Accounting Manager), Phyllis Dobbs (Controller), Ee Durbin (Director of Infrastructure), Laura Graves (Financial Analyst), Olivia Sauls (Program Director), Loren Crary (Director of Resource Development), Chloe Gerhardson (Infrastructure Engineer), Sarah Swienckowski-Eckhart (Community Events Manager) were also in attendance.

2   Minutes of Past Meetings

Minutes from prior meeting February 15, 2023:

3   Board and Staff Monthly Reports for March 2023

3.1   Deb Nicholson

  • Working on the 2022 Annual Report (please send pics!)
  • We'll be working on some individual donor outreach over the next few months
  • Sarah and Molly are doing great!
  • Convened our first pre-PyCon all-hands
  • Last week we had over 300 new registrations for onsite PyCon attendees, whoo!
  • I'm assisting with odd or out-of-band requests for PyCon
  • Reserved Ivy & Varley patio seating for our board dinner
  • We've secured funding for a second (junior) Developer in Residence
  • Screening has begun for the Security Developer in Residence role
  • Working with Kushal to draft a plan for building mentorship skills in the CPython community
  • Looking into our privacy policy and this year's workflow to make sure we are compliant with data privacy laws
  • Working with a non-profit law firm to draft a ToS for PyPI services offerings
  • Met with the folks who drafted the principles for safer developer ecosystems
    • they are hopefully going to add some context and a statement that clarifies expectations for signatories
  • Spoke with OSI about the CRA
  • Attending the OFE Community Call about CRA
  • Met with Ciaran O'Riordan to discuss the most important places for the PSF to weigh in on
  • We also discussed some proposed changes to SEP and FRAND doctrine in Europe
  • Reached out to FSFE as well
