      Dear PSF board member and Python Community I am Calvin Tsang, Vice President of Open Source Hong Kong (OSHK) and Conference Chair of PyCon Hong Kong 2026. I have contributed to open-source communities since 2013 and have been involved in organizing PyCon Hong Kong since its beginning in 2015. I am standing for the Python Software Foundation Board to strengthen collaboration between local Python communities, particularly across Asia-Pacific, and the global Python ecosystem. Over the years, my involvement has grown from community participation and outreach to conference leadership, sponsorship, volunteer development, partnerships, and community operations. Through PyCon Hong Kong, OSHK, and the Hong Kong Python community, I have worked to create opportunities for developers, students, speakers, volunteers, companies, and open-source contributors to connect, share knowledge, and participate. My community work increasingly extends beyond Hong Kong. By participating in Python conferences and building relationships with organizers across Asia-Pacific, I have seen both the diversity and shared challenges of our communities. Differences in language, geography, resources, sponsorship, and access to international networks can affect how easily local communities connect with the wider Python ecosystem. If elected to the PSF Board, I hope to help bridge these gaps by strengthening connections between the PSF and local communities around asia, encouraging greater exchange of speakers, organizers, knowledge, and experience across countries, and bringing more Asia-Pacific perspectives into global Python discussions. I also believe strongly in sustainable community development. Successful conferences are important, but developing the next generation of volunteers, speakers, organizers, and community leaders creates a longer-lasting impact. After more than a decade of open-source contribution and organizing PyCon Hong Kong since 2015, I hope to bring my experience in community leadership, conference organization, and Asia-Pacific collaboration to the PSF Board and help build a more connected and sustainable global Python community.

      I am writing to enthusiastically nominate Calvin Tsang. I deeply admire his active leadership within Open Source Hong Kong, where his efforts have cultivated a community that is incredibly inclusive, welcoming, and active. Calvin has been a dedicated advocate for the wider open-source ecosystem since 2013 and a steadfast supporter of PyCon HK since 2015. His commitment to fostering diverse tech spaces is further highlighted by his establishment of PyLadies HK last year, as well as his ongoing volunteer work with PyCon Asia. He brings extensive hands-on experience in organizing and building open-source communities from the ground up. Professionally, his background is anchored in technology governance, marketing, and business development. This unique combination of grassroots community advocacy and strategic business expertise makes him an exceptional candidate who will bring immense value to the board.

      I'm nominating Calvin Tsang for the PSF Board. Calvin is VP of Open Source Hong Kong and a longtime organizer of PyCon Hong Kong, having held roles from Marketing Lead to Vice Chairman over the past several years. He's also served on the PyCon APAC organizing committee and helped build connections across PyCon communities in Taiwan, Korea, and India. His experience sustaining open-source and Python infrastructure in Hong Kong and the wider APAC region would bring valuable regional community-building strength to the board.

      Calvin is a long-term contributor, maintainer, and leader in the Python community, including PyCon Hong Kong and Japan.

      He also serves as a key connector among Python communities across East Asia. In recent years, as far as I know, he has traveled extensively to Python events in the US, Taiwan, Japan, the Philippines, Hong Kong, and Indonesia, building strong connections across the region.

      He is a pioneer in the free and open source software movement in the APAC region, and certainly not a newcomer to the community. He started devoting himself to open source back when far fewer people were aware of or actively involved in it. Now that he has decided to focus more of his efforts on the PSF, I believe this is a great opportunity for the Python community.

      With his extensive experience and knowledge of Python communities, I believe he would be a great contributor to the PSF and could help strengthen communication among the Board, staff, and members of the PSF.

      As Chair of PyCon Hong Kong since 2023, Calvin Tsang has revitalized our community by mentoring new leaders and fostering a unified Asian Python ecosystem through his volunteerism at regional events like PyCon JP. His commitment to inclusivity is clear from his strategic support for the founding of PyLadies HK, and his leadership within Open Source Hong Kong has been pivotal in strengthening the region's technological landscape.

      I believe Calvin is an ideal choice for the PSF Board of Directors because he bridges the gap between local grassroots efforts and broader strategic goals.
