Job Description

The Python Software Foundation (PSF) (https://www.python.org/psf-landing/) is hiring a part-time Accountant, reporting to the PSF Controller and supporting the Accounting Team.

The PSF’s Accounting Team is the back-office backbone of our organization and supports our non-profit mission; from the annual PyCon US conference to giving out Python grants for events and projects around the world to supporting our volunteer-run fiscal sponsorees. We also support the rest of the PSF staff in their day-to-day projects and goals including fundraising, infrastructure, communications, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Record accounts payable, collect and record vendor tax forms, set up payments in various systems in compliance with company guidelines.
  • Act as main point of contact for debit and credit cards for staff and volunteers; includes setting up new cards, closing down cards, ensuring receipt collection, and recording transactions in the general ledger.
  • Moderate donations email list and highlight action items, record incoming payments in general ledger and donations subledger, and monitor mail for donations.
  • Monitor, set up, and/or update PSF records in vendor, donor, and sponsor portals.
  • Prepare monthly and annual bank and account reconciliations.
  • Willingness to travel for 5-7 days to the annual PyCon conference and assist with on-site transactions for our travel grants program, annual fundraising auction, and other events. May optionally travel another week or two per year.
  • Enter annual 1099 and 1042-S forms into tax filing system.
  • Assist with preparing monthly/quarterly/annual/ad hoc financial statements for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ad hoc projects as necessary.

Compensation and Benefits

The Accountant is a salaried, part-time employee at 25 hours per week and is open to USA remote applicants only. Compensation and benefits include salary, 401(k), health (full premium paid by the PSF)/ dental/vision insurance, and paid holidays/time off. The salary range is $32,500 to $39,000 USD based on qualifications and experience. This position will report to the Controller. Recurring availability with US Central/Mountain time zones will be necessary for check-ins and collaboration with Accounting Team.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Associates degree in Accounting or related field

  • 3 to 5 years of accounting experience is preferred

  • The ideal candidate has experience with the following systems:
    • General ledger software (QuickBooks or QuickBooks Online preferred)
    • Tax form systems, such as tax1099.com
    • MS Excel and Google Docs
    • A willingness to learn in-house systems
    • Experience with online banking, credit card processors, and various payment methods
  • Experience with supporting audit requests is a plus

  • Familiarity with non-profit fund accounting or fiscal sponsorship a plus
