Senior Staff Engineer - Origination & New Products

Job Description

We're hiring a Senior Staff Engineer to lead a new three-person squad building product categories that don't exist at tem yet: deep integration into Rosso, pricing capability, and deal-risk tooling. This is a hands-on individual-contributor role, not people management. You design, build, and review the hardest parts of the system yourself, in Python, alongside the squad.

The stack is production-grade Python throughout: services built on AWS Lambda and API Gateway, state and events handled with DynamoDB and EventBridge, all wired together as event-driven architecture. You will write Python daily, both for new product integrations and for the pricing and risk logic that sits behind them.

Compensation: GBP 117,850 (or local equivalent) plus equity. Benefits include 25 days holiday plus your birthday off, a remote/wellbeing budget, and fully remote working with no internal meetings on Friday afternoons.

Requirements

Requirements:

• Proven technical leadership at Staff or Senior Staff level, with evidence of leading ambiguous initiatives to real business impact
• Comfortable operating without a spec, shaping an undefined opportunity into something buildable
• Production experience with Python at scale, and fluency with AWS serverless services (Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, EventBridge)
• Sound commercial judgement: able to reason about deal risk and revenue impact, not just delivery
• Track record leading a squad through technical direction and mentorship, without formal people-management responsibility
• Strong written and verbal communication with commercial stakeholders

Bonus points:

• Experience in energy, fintech, or another regulated, high-stakes commercial domain
• Experience taking a product or company into a new international market
• Exposure to workflow orchestration or real-time pricing engines

About the Company

tem builds the pricing infrastructure behind commercial energy contracts, a Python and AWS-serverless system called Rosso that prices deals, balances portfolios, and sits on the critical path for every trade we close.
