Django Developer

The Developer Society

Job Title
Django DeveloperJob Description
We’re looking for a Django Developer to join our team and strengthen our support and delivery capacity across a growing portfolio of partner work. For this particular role we’re looking for someone with strong Django experience, and knowledge of Wagtail would be ideal too.
You’ll be joining our Partner Success team as a technical contributor, responsible for maintaining and delivering solutions that support our SLA (Service Level Agreement) and retainer-based partners. This role combines hands-on development work with a strong focus on reliability, responsiveness, and technical partnership - prioritising uptime, speed of resolution, and consistent delivery for our partners.
We’re looking for intelligent people with an eagerness to learn new things. As well as technical knowledge, we need someone who gets it - someone who is a natural problem solver, knows when to ask for support, and can turn messy incoming requests into calm, practical solutions.
We’re not just code machines - we’re humans, so we need developers who collaborate, support, and work together to help the whole team succeed. This role suits someone who can combine solid backend development with technical leadership in process: helping a team deliver well without needing to formally manage it.
We have a lot of clients / partners, and a lot of codebases. You won’t be working on the same project for months, but need to be confident about context switching, making sensible technical decisions, and working across multiple streams of work.
Restrictions
- Telecommuting is OK
- No Agencies Please
Requirements
The Role involves:
- Working with Python, Django, and Wagtail (our favourite CMS framework)
- Picking up and delivering backend development work across a range of partner projects and retainers with SLAs in place
- Sprint management - ensuring that sprint goals are met
- Supporting issue triage - helping to assess incoming requests, and picking up quick fixes to keep our partners happy
- Improving team processes around deployment, environments, release visibility, and technical handover
- Interacting with the partners we work with to help scope, plan, and sometimes directly respond to technical work
- Collaboratively working with project managers, designers, and other developers to deliver successful work as a team
- Reviewing other developers’ code to promote best practices and encourage co-operative learning
- Being able to adapt and integrate new technologies quickly, using new APIs and technologies as needed
- Taking non-technical requests and designing solutions which result in logical data structures, smooth user experiences, well tested code, and long-term code-base health
We are looking for someone who…
- Has strong professional experience with Python and Django
- Enjoys working across multiple projects and codebases
- Can confidently work in existing systems, improve them, and make sensible technical decisions
- Is comfortable being a senior technical presence within a team, without needing formal line management responsibility
- Can help others learn through pairing, reviewing, explaining, and unblocking
- Is organised and comfortable with context switching
- Can communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical people
- Seeks working in an agency environment (albeit a not-for-profit one!)
- Enjoys the Zen of Python and ‘Pythonic’ code
- Is energised by working on projects for charities and non-profits
- Can balance the perfectionists-with-deadlines mantra of Django for the resource constrained third-sector
- Is big hearted and keen to make the world a better place
- Knows the importance of sharing skills and learning
The following would be a bonus...
- Knowledge of Wagtail CMS
- Confidence with deployment workflows, release processes, and environment management
- DevOps awareness and confidence working close to infrastructure, even if not a full-time DevOps specialist
- Some front-end confidence, enough to handle simpler changes where useful
- Experience supporting or maintaining long-running partner relationships through ongoing technical work
- Experience with React Native or willingness to learn enough to support adjacent app work
About the Company

We believe the people working to build a better world deserve the clarity, power, and tools to finish what they start. By shifting digital capability into the hands of charities, not-for-profits, and social movements, we help them thrive: and when they thrive, society benefits.
