[Pythonmac-SIG] alias question

I'm doing an os.path.walk() checking for aliases and other file types.
However, if there's an alias pointing to a network volume, the user is prompted
to log in to the server to mount the volume so os.path.walk() can continue.  My
question is this: is there a way to determine whether or not a file is an alias
such that if the alias points to a network volume, the user won't be prompted.
This seems possible because the information is available via 'Get Info...'.
