python, a scripting language?

If Python is a scripting language, then Java most certainly is one as
well.

The term "scripting language" these days is usually used merely as a
diminutive.  The languages one likes are called "programming languages,"
the ones one doesn't are called "scripting language."  The term really
has no significant meaning.
