Unfortunately, it is my experience that non-open-source freeware at a
point in time if successful will go shareware. 

Freeware is just kept like that until enough users has it, whereafter
the current version is quickly removed from the net and substituted by
a new shareware version.

Not that I expect this is the intention of Randy pointing out the editor.
