Thanks, Tim...I took the "Mac OS X Public Beta" phrase in the above,
followed by "expected not to be a problem with future versions" to
suggest that I need not do that.

See also Steve's post suggesting 
    limit stack 4096
prior to trying the test...that solved the problem.
