I thought I had used the -U option with easy_install, but looking at  
my notes, I did the following:

   - Download the appscript-0.20.0.tar.gz file
   - Expand the tarball
   - Go into the appscript-0.20.0 directory
   - sudo python setup.py install

I'm using the stock 10.6 Python (2.6.1).
