Thanks for your persistence and the clarity of your arguments, Huaiyu.

I am personally swayed by the arguments for a preprocessor and a special
syntax when "import matnum" appears.  However, regardless of the outcome
of the discussion, having Matlab-like support within Python will be A
GOOD THING (tm) and something which I will use extensively, despite
being a Matlab user/owner.
