Copiar archivos, samba, linux filesystem

Hola lisra, me presento, soy emonk.

Recien empiezo con python, y el primer programa que quiero hacer, es uno que
haga backups; va a correr en un server linux; es sencillo solo tiene que
montar un recurso compartido de otra maquina (a travez de samba) y copiar el
contenido a una carpeta local; y despues eventualmente comprimirlo en tar.gz
.

Lo que desconozco es por que modulos debo empezar a investigar, porque
estuve viendo la doc del modulo os, y dice que es para DOS y MAC :S.
