I don't see any reason why they shouldn't. Does anybody know how
hard/easy it is get a VISA to work in India?

Pretty much.

I think it is not bad. I know couple of friends who have quit their
regular jobs and found some interesting consulting work in Python.

I'm at the other end of the coin. I'm living in Bangalore and I
telecommute for an organization in the US.
You can try to get some telecommuting job, but it won't be as fun as
working with a group, esp. when you are in a new country.
