| I've done some comparisons (weeks ago) on a few relatively large XML
| files.  On some of them pyexpat was a bit faster, and on the others
| xmlproc was better. Was not systematic for any of them.  

Alain, if you could either be systematic or release the files and your
applications that would be much appreciated. I've now done relatively
thorough testing and have found pyexpat to be consistently much faster
over different documents and applications.

I will post my results as soon as I can, but it would be very
interesting to see your results as well, since that might make it
possible to find out on what kinds of documents/applications pyexpat
takes a performance penalty.
