| Maybe Paul's suggestion "Structuring XML Documents" is more suited
| for me?

Well, it's really a rather traditional SGML book as well, although it
does point out differences between XML and SGML throughout the text.

Note that calling it a 'traditional SGML book' is not meant disparagingly,
quite the contrary, but that it's not aimed at typical XML uses. (For
example, the attention given to the documents being easy to edit
manually is not a concern for many XML DTDs, where the content is
generated automatically.)

| schema.net seems a *very* useful site indeed.

It is. I usually look for what I want there first, and if I can find
it I try the more complete (but less easily navigated)
