Which superpack installer did you use? The ones for scipy at
http://sourceforge.net/projects/scipy/files/  are (supposed to be) installing
only scipy, superpack only refers to 3 different versions of sse support.

What I don't know is whether the installer would initiate a numpy install
if it doesn't find an already installed compatible version of numpy.

I never had any problems with the superpacks on WindowsXP, so there
might be something else going on, if numpy got reinstalled.
