It's a relatively recent change. All (or almost all) of the Numeric 
compatibility aliases have been moved to numpy.oldnumeric. If you want to go 
that route (and you probably do, since you will have to eventually), grab a 
recent SVN checkout of numpy or wait for the 1.0beta which is scheduled for 
Thursday.
