[Pythonmac-SIG] Recursion limit in OS X?

I'm working on a port of Boa Constructor to OS X and one of the most
common problems (reported often to the main developer) of Boa on the Mac
is recursion limits. The application, when opening or saving a file,
freezes and crashes frequently, while outputting a message like this:
"runtime error: recursion limit exceeded." This is what I've observed as
well.

While I don't get similar output from the other programs I maintain,
including SPE, wxGlade and Eric3, the behavior is similar.

I ran across this thread:

http://lists.osafoundation.org/pipermail/commits/2005-February/003813.html

which indicates to me that conflicts between recursion limits in Python
and OS X are a known, documented issue.

Does anyone have experience in dealing with this issue? Any workarounds?
~ I'm very interested in working through/around this so that the apps I
maintain are actually usable. :-)
