That was supposed to be:
 Links to the Python reference documentation are NOT useful for people
 just beginning with some aspect of Python

and as long as I'm revising, I mean that as a general statement, 
nothing wrong with a reference doc link accompanying a simpler 
explanation or pointer thereto.
