Why don't you write the GUI in Python?  Check out 'wxPython' and
others.  'wx' programs can get pretty short, something like:

app= wx.PySimpleApp()
frame= wx.Frame( app )
canvas= wx.Canvas( frame )
canvas.Render( my_picture )
app.MainLoop()
