Event notification system - where to start ?

Looks to me like you can do this really easily with Pyro.
Have a look at http://pyro.sf.net and in particular at
the Event Server http://pyro.sourceforge.net/manual/6-eventserver.html.

It's really easy to get into, and there are several examples
in the distribution.
