FWIW, I asked Sleepycat about this issue.  Their reply indicated it was
indeed a licensing issue which keeps the BSD folks from migrating to
something newer.  1.85 was the last version produced at Berkeley.  Later
versions from Sleepycat had different licenses.  The current open source
license which Sleepycat provides isn't acceptable to the BSD folks.
