'refer' is a bibliographic tool for use with *roff. While no one
is using groff much any more, the format is quite nicely readable and
near-trivial to parse. For example:

%T O Jerusalem
%A King, Laurie R.
%G ISBN 0-553-58105-8
%I Bantam
%D 1999
%@ 2003-03-02
%P 425pp
%K mystery, sherlock holmes

The only problem is with adding additional fields; you have to come up
with a single character that isn't already used.

--amk (www.amk.ca)
I'm going outside now; I might be gone some time.
