python as a web glue ?

hello,

(i had never used python as a cgi or anything related to page serving)

i would like to deploy a web service, which would be the result of many
processing some would be implemented in python, other will be partially
implemented in python and will just capture output from other programs
(closed source, just have binary licence) or other scripting languages (that
i didn't wan't to rewrite). Also i would like to add db like mysql,

so do you think that python could help me ?

should i use a full python webserver ? or will apache module like mod_python
fill my needs ?

does it already exist similar things that i could re-use ?
