Python's 8-bit cleanness deprecated?

And we down here in the middle band of North America* still insist on 
the insanity of having two of each hour every day.  (Although not on any 
device I own which can be convinced otherwise.)

* I was about to type "we south of you, Francois..." and then decided 
not to risk being in fact north of you.  Good thing, as it turns out 
that I'm a bit over 2 degrees farther north than Francois is (assuming 
that the U Montreal address isn't an alumnus sort of address).
