They don't make it the least bit difficult.  I've never had any
problems using either the Python2 package from RH or
from-scratch installs of Python 2.x. I agree that it would be
nice if they put 1.5.2 in as a "private" install and have 2.x
as /usr/bin/python, but dealing the existing setup isn't
difficult.
