Python on an ARM Linux Graphics Client Plus

I must be tired, this post gives little information :-)

I have the above system running great, been cross compiling using the
lart toolchain with little to no problems. Upgraded the kernel, and modified
the ramdisk so I know that the environment is sane. I started to get excited
about python on this device when I installed it on the iPAQ (CE version),
BTW to all who did this it ROCKS!

I compile Python 2.2 on the Linux box, no problems as expected. So, I
would like to build this for my environment and have been fighting with it
for hours; I am about to give up that's what prompted this e-mail.

    Environment:
Linux running Slackware with a rebuilt 2.4.5 kernel
        gcc version 2.95.3
        ---------------------------------------------------
        arm-linux-gcc version 2.95.2
        arm linux kernel version 2.4.9-ac10-rmk2-np1-ads2

Hope this helps to clarify the problem.
