Hardware acceleration?

I read an interesting article in Javapro about Jazzelle, which appears
to be a hardware add-on to an ARM processor that allows customization
(or a sort) of the chip so that it appears to be a hardware Java
bytecode processor.

It makes me wonder whether any such thing has been tried for the
Python VM. Have there been any hardware projects taking a look at
revving up Python?
