One of the synthesisers I have allow the setting of an overall unequal
temperament over the 12 notes (with a resolution of 5 cents if I remember
correctly, which is a bit gross for some temperaments), and I presume
many synthesisers would do something similar.  Once a temperament pushed
in the synthesiser, you can use MIDI nevertheless, to experiment a bit...

This is pretty debatable.  It depends on how you choose to define "music":
either as the expression of an intent, or the expression of a rendering.
MIDI has virtues on both sides, but is also (severely) lacking on both.

Count me in! :-) I would also like to have nicer MIDI support from Python.
