That's a common error of native german speakers.

Lothar meant to say: "It does not have to be freeware".
that's what saying "Es muss nicht freeware sein" in german means (it's not a
must, but it can)

a slight difference in logic, than can cause big missunderstandings as we
see here ... ;-)
