Excel sheet, can Python read them in Linux?

I found that best way to do this is add a macro to 
the Excel spreadsheet that lets the user click a button 
to save as a tab-delimited or comma-separated file.

If this is possible this is the easiest way to 
get the Excel data to Unix or Linux.
