My first thought to this is.
What if you happen to have a lousy editor that don't suport tabs in a good
way? E.g. it have 1 tab = 8 spaces or it doesnt display tabs at al.

Or you might be sitting on your W98 pc with the included telnet program
conected to a server where you use pico as your editor.
Then you sure want to save as much space as possible sideways and not use a
few tabs in the begining of each line.

Maybe this is just an extreme case that never occur, but it might be a
reason to not force the use of tabs.

I agree that it sure would make it easyer in this case, when you have a good
editor.
