I would agree with the "two days" figure, if he already had some previous
programming experience. But as he says, "little as a programmer", it will
probably take longer, since he is learning programming at the same time.

Still, your advice to ask for help after two days is good advice.

I have (some) programming experience, and started with a task I wanted to do,
and it took me a few days, after having already spent a couple of days looking
through the tutorial and so forth.
