Well, type declarations would probably have made the PEP 238
discussion much shorter, in that it would be easier to write a tool to
search for "all cases of the / operator where the operands are both
integers", and so on.

Moore's Law isn't the only force at work, and type declarations aren't
just optimisations to enhance performance. As you all know, of course.
