A minor point: with the advent of GPS and enhanced avionics, the airlines
are moving towards point to point flights and away from the charted
airways (at least in the US). Since they totally screwed up with
excessive reliance on the hub/spoke system, they are trying to undo some
of the damage and realize some fuel savings too.
