If you are completely new to programming, you might also want to look at
Learn to Program Using Python by Alan Guald if you want a printed book.
There are also a number of good online "beginner" tutorials listed on
the Python site (look at http://www.python.org/doc/Intros.html ) if you
have ready web access.
