I wondered the same thing.  My guess is that he meant that whitespace
can sometimes be omitted within a line, such as:

    x = x + 1
    x=x+1 # does the same thing

Obviously, of course, that isn't true for indentation, where quite on
the contrary, whitespace is _mandatory_.
