You should be able to do this by setting the TZ variable to e.g. "EDT";
unfortunately, I think that if you do that, you'll have to remember to
change TZ twice a year (when Daylight Savings switches on and off). I
just took a look at my Solaris box, and it has TZ set to "US/Pacific",
so that might work around the Daylight Savings problem.
