Stackless Python for the Mac?

Thanks, ...but... I tried this and get the "can't find PythonCore"
error when trying to run any Python stuff thereafter (until I put back
the original PythonCore).

By this I assume you mean the distribution at:

ftp://ftp.cwi.nl/pub/jack/python/mac/*152.*

should work, no?
