sqrt is common in business (elementary statistics) calculations (you don't
think they put a sqrt key on $2 calculators because they need to get rid of
extra keycaps <wink>?).  The typical user will be as baffled and helpless in
the face of a page full of complex numbers as the typical IEEE-754 user is
in the face of a page full of NaNs.  The point is to catch likely errors
ASAP; at least the 754 user can enable the invalid operation exception
(provided a local platform expert can be found to tell them how!).
