The answer is, don't use Netscape as a newsreader. It's a piece of shit.
Get a real newsreader like slrn, trn, the GNUS thing for emacs, or
what have you.

I use slrn, which lets you killfile by subject, author or arbitrary pattern
matches on header and body. Plus it lets you scope the kills to be global or to
particular newsgroups. The kill isn't binary; you can assign an arbitrary
negative score, with -9999 meaning you never see the annoying idiot again. And
you can put in a date restriction, so that the ban will be automatically lifted
by a certain date. In the case of utter losers like Xah, it's ``-9999, all
newsgroups, and forever.'' ;)
