Konstantin's patches already compile cleanly and work. I will do
further testing this weekend. The most important goal was to be able
to bind as a LDAPv3 client.

One of the main advantages of the OpenLDAP 2.0.x libs is that they
have already built-in support for LDAP over SSL, LDAP with STARTTLS
extension and SASL binding. Theoretically you can enable features
this by setting the right options...
