Probably a good reason why you can't do this, but is there any way you can upgrade to the latest 2.1.20?  It means the code for doing this is already there for you and will work by looking up the relevant domain's DMARC policy in DNS.  I use it on all the lists here by default now by munging the From: header and it works when it needs to.
