I was incorrect in my earlier statement. On my RedHat 7.3 box with Postfix
1.7 installed via RPM is running as postfix.

Thanks,
David

I have the latest package from RedHat (2.1-7) running on RedHat 7.3 over
Postfix 1.7. I had to change the spec file slightly (use postfix and
python2 instead of sendmail and python), and can give anyone who wants
it a diff. The [beta] packages are available here:

ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/rawhide/i386/RedHat/Base/mailman-2.1-7
.i386.rpm
ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/rawhide/SRPMS/SRPMS/mailman-2.1-7.src.
rpm

The fact that these are in RawHide means they are beta (it's working
well for me though). Any and all reported issues should be reported to
bugzilla.redhat.com.

If uses sendmail as the MTA by default, but it's pretty easy to edit the
post-install scripts to use postfix files instead of sendmail. If you
get the source RPM, you can set the mailgroup and mailgid variables in
the spec file to be whatever you want. By default it's a group of
groups/gids: mail; nobody; mailman. The comment says postfix is run as
nobody, but my 1.7 RPM Postfix RPM from RedHat 7.3 runs as postfix. Not
sure if they maybe changed they in 8.0 or somewhere in Rawhide. I didn't
notice or change these variables in my installation, and it hasn't been
a problem for me so far.
