Don't think that answers his question.  He says he's sending a
text/plain (which his message to this list was), and getting
text/html back from the list, especially in the list footer(?).

Something odd there if that's true.  Might be a list config item and
a custom footer.  Might be that his local mail system is mungeing
his messages and adding HTML even if he doesn't (I've seen that sort
of stupid crap done before).
