Hi all,

I'm new to this list, and although I've searched the archives, I haven't
found the answer. I'm sorry if this has been asked before.

I run Mailman 1.1 and offer a mailing list service to our clients. Ase some
of them have migrated from expensive NT based mailing
lists, they exported their subscriber lists, and mass-subscribed them using
the web interface. To make the system as secure
as possible and to avoid script-kiddies to fiddle with the web interface, we
opted to have an alternative interface to subscribe from
the web: an html form where people just enter their e-mail address. The form
sends a mail to the request addres of the concerning
mailing list with the subscribe command and a default passwd in the subject
line and a the from address set to the new subscriber so that the
confirmation
mail gets sent to the right place. The same happens for unsubscribtions.
For new users this works like a charm, the problem is with users that have
been mass-subscribed. We don't want them to access the mailman web-interface
nor do
we want them to recieve monthly passwd reminders. We want it as simple as
possible for our users to avoid any problems/questions.
So, I'd like to know if it is possible to set the password of ALL
subscribers to the same password. The subscribers don't know this password
as the web interface is not accessible
to them (the config of our apache server prevents this) and the only way for
them to subscribe/unsubscribe is to use the mailforms we set up to this
purpose. Else, is their a way to disable
the password protection for subscribers altogether ?

Thx,

Patrick Putteman
