I completely agree.  I also think cryptography is one of those "sweet spot" 
intersection zones between multiple disciplines:  math, engineering, history, 
humanties.  As per my LinuxFest talk, I highly recommend Neal Stephenson's 
'Cryptonomicon' as another good story for a high schooler's library (the 
material is a bit more R-rated than 'In Code' -- all the better).
