[Tutor] python/ pygame on XP: window not responding

I am a new python/ pygame user. In attempting the simple 
command pygame.display.set_mode((640,480))
The newly created window is not responding. I am using these programs with
the Windows XP operating system. Can you provide any suggestions or help
with this issue??
