Hmm, This bit wasn't as clear as it should be:

ie. I'd *pack* the menu bar and toolbar frames then create a 
new *grid* frame for the input and display on the left and 
buttons on the right. I'd then *pack* that in the original 
and finally *pack* the status bar.

Hope that's clearer now.
